$80 is the new $70
Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 at $80 standard, $100 deluxe, $130 collector's. The market reaction was a collective shrug — which is, itself, the news.
Every other publisher with a 2026/27 release just had a very quiet meeting about whether they too can charge $80.
No disc, on purpose
The collector's edition ships without a disc. That's a deliberate move — Rockstar gets to keep the digital margin, retailers get squeezed, preservationists get angry.
It also makes resale impossible, which is, for Take-Two's CFO, a feature.
What downstream looks like
Expect Ubisoft, EA, and Activision to test $80 on their next big release. Expect physical retail to keep losing shelf to digital storefronts. Expect a fresh round of think pieces about whether games are 'worth' their price.
They are. The bigger question is whether the industry's price umbrella now lifts everyone, or just the publishers big enough to weather a $30 backlash.
